Detroit Lions Mock draft

The Lions have started free agency quite well. They have added two new corners in Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson then they signed a new EDGE rusher in Marcus Davenport. It also sounds likely that the Lions are going to sign DJ Reader. Since the Lions also re-signed Graham Glasgow the only needs left that Detroit has is OG and WR and then some luxury positions that could improve. They could draft an EDGE to compete with Davenport and Paschal. So let's get this started

Round 1 pick 29 Jackson Powers-Johnson C/OG: JPJ is such a fun player he was an elite center last year for the Ducks and was a great guard for the Ducks the year before. He can play the entire IOL. He has good weight and size and had 30 bench press reps. JPJ has allowed 0 sacks in the last 3 seasons and has allowed 1 QB hit in the last 3 seasons and only 2 QB hurries in the last three seasons. JPJ would be a massive upgrade to our OL and gives insurance to the Lions if Ragnow retires or gets hurt. Plus he was on the same with as Penei Sewell. I do think the 29th overall pick is going to be either JPJ is Zach Frazier C from West Virginia.

Round two pick 61 Xavier Leggete WR South Carolina: I am a huge fan of Leggete he is strong, fast, and powerful when he runs. He has the same contested catch % as Malik Nabers at 47%. Leggete is one of the best YAC WRs in this class. He showcases contested catch potential, deep threat potential, and YAC potential. The Lions would finally have a true X WR. This move would truly help the Lions get over the top on offense.

He also has a great RAS to boost and a great explosion grade. Why wouldn't the Lions draft a WR with this much potential?

Round 3 pick 73 Max Melton CB Rutgers: The Lions only have Sutton and Robertson under contract past the 2024 season for the outside CB spot. Even if Emmanuel Moseley has a good season Moseley is likely leaving Detroit next season and while you could argue the Lions are likely going to extend Carlton Davis it is still good to have a good rotation of CBs ready. Melton could end up replacing Sutton once Sutton's contract is up and even if the Lions choose to keep Sutton around that still gives the Lions a strong corner group. Melton can play slot as well. Melton would likely be a project pick mainly due to the players the Lions already have. In the 2024 season, Melton would likely be behind Davis, Sutton, Moseley, and Robertson. Some things to note Moseley does have an injury history and you never know if Sutton will fully recover from that ankle issue. It is good to secure your CB core.

That ends the mock draft for the Lions.
