Detroit Lions fans are baffled with the reappearance of a familiar face coming back to Detroit and no it's not Calvin Johnson coming out of retirement to play for Dan Campbell nor did the Lions sign Michigan football star Jabrill, Peppers instead they brought back the 2017 first-round pick from Florida Jarrad Davis Lions fans, of course, have some painful memories of the player, after all, he was a bust so why did Detroit bring back the old Florida product?
To start off let's look at what the Lions have done in FA the past two seasons the Lions have added a bunch of players on one-year deals with low-risk high reward players Charles Harris Tyrell Williams DJ Chark and Alex Anzalone along with Kalif Raymond who was all one-year deals and Harris Alex and Raymond was signed to 2nd contracts. The Lions clearly know they are in a rebuild and prefer to sign one year prove it deals with the rebuild instead of adding expensive free agents (The last regime was the exact opposite giving large contracts to players like Trey Flowers Jesse James and Justin Coleman) this tells us this is what the Lions want to do right now low risk moves with high reward.
How does this relate to Davis? Well for one Jarrad Davis was signed on a one-year deal and he does have a high reward chance as shown by two things 1. His athletic ceiling Davis scored a 9.07 RAS score Jarrad Davis RAS 2. his 2018 season where he had 100 tackles and 6 sacks 10 QB hits 10 TFL 17 QB pressures Jarrad Davis Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com
Just to add some more hope and positive via analytics here is a possible idea on what role Davis may have 🦁 Brad Holmes Serving Honolulu Blue Koolaid 🦁 (@DumasMike) / Twitter while he may never become a starter he does have some potential as a situational pass rusher who is viable in the run game.
In the end, the Davis signing is no different than the other Lions adds and Campbell appears to like him Notes: Lions HC Dan Campbell seems to really like Jarrad Davis - Pride Of Detroit so let's just hope he ends up like a Charles Harris and surprises us all.
