My prediction of the Detroit Lions offseason (also some of my ideal choices)

Updated: Mar 3, 2023

Free Agency:

Drue Tranquill LB LA Chargers: Tranquill broke out last season for the Chargers getting 146 tackles 5 sacks 1 FF and 1 int he fits the mold of cheap young but also high ceiling as shown by his latest season. His contract projection is a 2-year 8.5 mill deal according to PFF. Tranquill would be a huge upgrade from Alex Anzalone and would be a great partner to Rodrigo.

Trayvon Mullen CB Ravens: Mullen makes sense he has played football for about 4 seasons so he has some experience but is still a young cheap grab to compete with Jeff Okudah and Jerry Jacobs for the CB2 job and his numbers were good in Vegas and he should be a good promising add.

Jerry Tillary DT Las Vegas Raiders: This would be the annual Holmes signing a low-risk high reward player. The Lions tried to sign Tillery and tried to put a waiver claim on him but failed to grab him. https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2022/11/14/23459164/detroit-lions-waiver-claim-jerry-tillery-not-awarded-priority-raiders#:~:text=The%20Detroit%20Lions%20were%20one%20of%20eight%20teams,2022%2C%207%3A19pm%20EST%20Mark%20J.%20Rebilas-USA%20TODAY%20Sports He showed some flashes in what he could be in 2021 with 51 tackles and 4.5 sacks if he can find more consistency than he did in 2021 and put all his talent together Tillary could be a steal for the Lions.

Jamaal Williams RB Lions: We all know Jamaal 1k rusher and double digit RB and locker room king and leader of the Den.

Josh Woods LB Lions: Woods was a special teams captain for the Lions and a great special teame.

Chris Board LB Lions: Board was a key special teamer even getting a nod from Bill Belichek for his skill at his position.

Isaiah Buggs NT Lions: Buggs made some key plays for the Lions and was a great locker room presence talling up a nice 46 tackle and 1 sack season earns him an extention.

John Cominsky DE: John Cominsky was one of the better Brad Holmes low risk high reward signings last year talling up 30 tackles and 4 sacks in 14 games despite not being a starter. Cominsky has also begged the Lions to resign him. It seems logical to return the man.

Brock Wright TE Lions: Wright is another player who outperformed his pay grade last season being a good blocker and finding the endzone getting 4 touchdowns on 18 catches one of those being the game winner vs New York. Wright showed growth last season he should only get better.

Tommy Kraemer OG Lions: Kraemer had all but won the RG spot behind Big V over Evan Brown and Logan Stenberg he will come very cheap and would keep around experinced depth.

Michael Badgley K Lions: Badgley did a respectable job for Detroit having a 85% of his kicks made while the Lions need better performance from their kicker this is still a good job and would be a good guy to have compete with another kicker.

Craig Reynolds and Justin Jackson: These guys were great depth RBs and Jackson has ST value. They can also both be added for cheap.

Draft:

Lions pick no 6 overall: Devon Witherspoon CB Illinois

Witherspoon was elite for illinois getting 3 ints 14 PDs 25.3 rating 0 TDs allowed and when in primary coverage allowed a 5.2 rating yes you heard it right 5.2. Witherspoon was also a good tackler and very physical and is a huge scheme fit and is a mauler fitting that Dan Campbell mentality.

Nate Sudfeld QB Lions: The Lions like Sudfeld and he was with the team all of last season odds are the Lions bring him back for cheap and draft a QB to compete with him.

pick no 18: Bijan Robinson RB Texas Bijan honestly just is to good to pass up he was Kenneth Walker like the last 2 season at Texas and he looks to be possibly even better. Robinson has speed size evasiveness power everything you would want in a back honestly. If the Lions want to get over the top and go to the super and be the team that Campbell says in being a run first team Robinson should be the pick.

Round 2 pick no 48: Adetomiwa Adebawore DT NorthWestern. Adetomiwa killed the combine scoring a 9.33 RAS score at DT. He also had solid production at Northwestern having 9.5 sacks in the last 2 seasons and over 60 tackles. His ceiling is high and the Lions need a new 3 tech he could also provide a run and pass rush boost.

round 2 picks 55: Cedric Tillman WR Tennesse Tillman was Hendon Hooker's WR1 in 2021 getting 1,000+ yards 12 TDs and 16.9 yards per catch. Tillman also is 6'3 215 pounds and while he did miss time in 2022 which caused the breakout of Jalin Hyatt he still got 417 yards and 3 TDs in 6 games he has size and speed and was a good separator at Tennesse he would be a great Chark replacement and could be a great add onto with JAMO and St Brown.

Round 3 pick 81: Tre'Vious Hodges-Tomlinson CB TCU Tomlinson was an elite slot CB at TCU allowed a 45 rating last season. He is also the nephew of LT and his tape is amazing he is a vastly physical CB for his size and plays it well just the way Aaron Glenn likes it.

round 5 pick 154: Ivan Pace Jr LB Cinnicatti. Pace Jr broke out last season with 136 tackles 9 sacks his coverage wasn't terrible but needs some work on and he does have size concerns but he plays bigger than his size. Pace would compete for the LB3 role with Derrick Barnes and could one day become a full-time starter.

round 6 pick 163: Dorian Thompson Robinson QB UCLA. Robinson makes sense in the backup role he was a good passer this last season throwing for 8.3 yards a throw and having a 27 TD 10 int-pick ratio and running for 12 touchdowns. Thompson would be a higher ceiling backup and would really push Sudfeld for the job and could possibly be a good backup. He also gives the Lions a mobile QB to practice against.

round 6 pick 194:Braeden Daniels OT Utah. Daniels was a solid OT for Utah allowing 0 sacks last season 1 hit and 14 hurries. He would replace Matt Nelson for the swing tackle role and would be an upgrade at the backup spot as well.

UDFA signing Harrison Mevis Kicker Missouri.
