Brodric Martin was the surprise pick of the draft for the Detroit Lions in 2023. Not only was he a projected day 3 pick but the Lions gave up two picks to grab him. Martin was a project pick from the start but he certainly had some nice potential 6'5 330 pounds not to mention he had a 35 arm length. Martin ended up being exactly what the org said he was going to be and that was a project. Martin only played in 3 games and had only 28 snaps and 3 tackles. Obviously, the Lions really like Martin as they traded up for him. So what could cause a breakout this season? The answer is time and a new D-Line coach. Time is the biggest factor in helping a project player become better and with new DL coach Terrell Williams Martin could be a force at Nose Tackle. Williams developed Jeffery Simmons and Harold Landry both of whom have become stars and Williams even had Denico Autry have a career-best season. Martin has the potential and we have seen players develop even better in years in Detroit. Alim McNeil had a career year in year 3 and so did Ifeatu Melifonwu. Aidan Hutchinson exploded into the scene in year two so why not Martin? I believe if the Lions truly want Martin to be good they need to make sure they bring in legit competition with him. Competition gets the best out of players and the Lions could sign players such as Greg Gaines, A'Shawn Robinson, and Leki Fotu. Martin could shock us like how Iffy did. We shall see if the Lions believe in him still in this off-season.
